So, what is Sustainable Change?

In basic terms, sustainable change is about maintaining balance. Making mindful choices about our planet’s environment and its natural resources, so we can support ourselves and future generations.

The United Nations says that “Sustainable development is how we must live today if we want a better tomorrow, by meeting present needs without compromising the chances of future generations to meet their needs. The survival of our societies and our shared planet depends on a more sustainable world.

But, seriously, how do we do this?

Well, there are three elements to Sustainable Change and Development, which all need to work together to achieve a positive outcome. These are Social Wellbeing, Environmental Protection and Economic Growth.

For example, it’s no good if an economy thrives but it comes at the detriment of its people and it uses up all of its natural resources to get there.

When we have a sustainable society we use our natural resources in a way that doesn’t cause permanent environmental degradation or pollution. Everyone has access to good education, healthcare and employment. And we ensure that everyone in our communities are looked after and no one is at a disadvantage.

This might all sound a bit too much, overwhelming even, and you might be thinking “I don’t know what to do, is anything I do going to make a difference” The answer to that is a big fat YES. Any small change you make in a planet positive way, WILL make a difference.
